Marylanders United Launches New Ads in Ocean City as Leaders Gather for MACo Conference
Annapolis, Maryland – Today, Marylanders United to Stop Slots launched a new ad campaign that speaks both to the residents of Ocean City and the leaders who will gather there next week for the annual meeting of the Maryland Association of Counties. New ads will run in the Maryland Coast Dispatch and Ocean City Today, and will target Annapolis politicians who are misleading voters by claiming the only way to solve the budget crisis is to flood Maryland with destructive slot casinos.
Annapolis continues to turn a blind eye to local concerns and ignore the social and economic costs of slots. A vote for slots is a vote for increased costs of new roads to deal with visiting gamblers, more police to deal with crime and addiction counseling that inevitably follows slots, the sullying of Ocean City’s family friendly atmosphere.
“Worcester County has a great deal to lose if a constitutional amendment to flood the state with 15,000 slot machines passes,” said Scott Arceneaux, Senior Advisor with Marylanders United to Stop Slots. “As leaders from across the state gather in Ocean City, we hope they listen to the grave concerns voters have about slot casinos in Maryland. We need to be able to trust our leaders and unfortunately, to date, you just can’t trust Annapolis on the issue of slots.”
